History of First Presbyterian Church, Hinesville

The First Presbyterian Church of Hinesville was organized in 1955. In July of 1955, educational facilities and a fellowship hall were built. Our sanctuary of contemporary design was completed in 1960 and the congregation began worshipping in their beautiful new church. It was not long before the growth of our congregation made necessary the expansion of our facilities.

In 1964 the Presbytery of Savannah located the office of Executive Secretary in a new educational building which was added to our existing facilities. They occupied this office space until August 1986.

A wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord presented itself to our membership in 1975. At this time, our church began a weekday school. Our school has grown to serve approximately 145 young people yearly, ages two years old through first grade. Through our school, we are able to reach many young people and their families and to provide them with opportunities to learn and fellowship in a Christian atmosphere. The growth in our weekday school led to another addition to our facilities. In 1986 an additional classroom was added to our educational facilities.

In the 37years of our church's serving the Lord we have been blessed to have the following ministers serve our church:

  • Raymond Nelson (February 1955 - June 1955)

  • Harvey Overton (1955-1960)

  • Frank W. Harrington (1961-1965)

  • Edgar D. Byers (1966-1971)

  • Daniel Baker Lott (1972-1989)

  • Richard C. Gates (3-1-1991-?)

  • Thomas Muller (11-5-1995 – Present)

With the guidance of our pastors, our congregation has steadfastly moved forward in its service to our Lord.
