Keynote: Improvising with God
Many church leaders are turning to improvisation as a powerful metaphor for ministry. Our time together will explore the theology behind good improvisation and how it can shepherd us joyfully and faithfully through times of change. This is not a performance-oriented endeavor, focused on skits and cleverness. Rather, improv is self-reflective, internal work. It is a way of seeing the world as it is and responding with courage and conviction. Scripture will be a primary conversation partner for us, along with theology, human psychology, literature, pop culture, music, and more.
Change and transition are constant companions in the 21st century. Yet many mainline churches feel stuck in a mindset of traditionalism and ten-year plans that gather dust on the shelf. Is there a more fruitful way to lead and be church together that takes seriously the changing culture around us, while not abandoning the bedrock convictions and practices of faith?
