Foote Lecture Series Returns to First Savannah – Feb 10-11, 2018

Wm. G. Foote Lecture Series @ First Savannah
520 Washington Ave, Savannah
February 10 -11, 2018 (times and details below!)

“I Appeal to You, Brothers and Sisters: The Call of Reconciliation”
presented by Dr. Leanne Van Dyk, President of Columbia Theological Seminary

The Foote Lecture Series will focus on the deeply biblical call to reconciliation.  Two “windows” into reconciliation will be explored.  The first “window” is the call to unity that Jesus himself gave.  The second “window” is the gift of the sacraments which form and shape us. In today’s context of division and distrust, our deep call to reconciliation is more important than ever.

Saturday, February 10
Dinner at 6:00 p.m. and Program at 7:00 p.m.
“The Task and the Gift of Reconciliation”

The New Testament clearly calls the church to the path of reconciliation. This presentation will acknowledge the multiple layers of reconciliation to which we are called. It will also explore how reconciliation is both a task of the church and a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday, February 11
Service of Worship at 11:00 a.m.
“God Goes On” based on Deuteronomy 34:1-12
and Revelation 22:1-7
Program at 4:00 p.m. and Reception at 5:00 p.m.
“The Lord’s Table and Reconciliation”
The sacraments are particular and unique places of God’s grace. This session will explore the Reformed tradition’s bold claims about the Lord’s Supper as a place of reconciliation.

The endowed series annually brings outstanding church leaders to Savannah and remembers the generosity of William Foote, whose bequest largely paid for the construction of the church building on Monterey Square in 1872.
