Accountability: The Interim Pastor is accountable to the Session and the Presbytery.
Purpose: The Interim Pastor is responsible for moderating the Session and providing pastoral leadership and administrative oversight of the church’s ministries, including worship, music, preaching, teaching, mission service, stewardship, and fellowship. The Interim Pastor will work with the Session and Church staff to provide opportunities for members to engage in worship, discipleship, and mission. The Interim Pastor will use their interim specialist skills to assess the congregation’s current and long-term needs and provide inspiring counsel and leadership to continue to advance its calling. The Interim Pastor will assist the congregation formulating qualifications for a permanent pastor. The Interim Pastor will support the congregation to continue to refine and improve its Christian mission and purpose during the time between installed pastors. The Interim Pastor will help prepare the congregation for new pastoral leadership.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
- Provide an outstanding biblically based preaching and teaching ministry consistent with Presbyterian theology.
- Guide the congregation as it transitions to serve a growing community.
- Preach, lead in worship, and provide a teaching ministry that will advance the spiritual growth of the membership and assist their journey in actively reaching out to neighbors in evangelism.
- As Head of Staff, administer the church’s ministries by leading, directing and supervising the professional staff.
- Moderate session meetings.
- Meet with church committees monthly or as needed.
- Lead and inspire the session and congregation in expansion of existing ministries and the development of new ministries.
- Motivate and be available as a resource person to the lay leaders of the church.
- Actively provide pastoral care and guidance to the church’s large contingent of scouts (in excess of 100 youth plus a large group of devoted adult leaders numbering over 50).
- Provide pastoral care for those in crises situations and dealing with health issues, visiting church members, and counseling as needed.
- Administer sacraments of communion and baptism.
- Officiate at weddings and funerals of members and counsel and assist church members impacted by such events.
- Support youth in the confirmation process.
- Provide new members with information on Presbyterian USA theology and structure including the roles of Elders and the session.
- Given projected rapid growth in the greater Richmond Hill area, actively engage with City and County officials to communicate available church programs and services for current and new residents.
- Attend and support church functions.
- Be devoted to meeting the needs of the church and its congregation.
- Fulfill the role of Teaching Elder.
- Work with committees to plan and execute yearly goals.
- Provide comprehensive report of pastoral activities at monthly session meetings
Qualifications:
- Ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA
- Experience as a called pastor and/or interim pastor. Other related experience and/or recommendations from seminary may be considered as meeting this qualification.
Compensation Package:
Annualized total salary – $62,000 to $73,000 (depending upon experience and qualifications) to include:
- Direct compensation (including taxes, social security, and MediCare)
- Housing allowance
- Contributions to pastor’s pension plan
- Individual health insurance
Other Provisions:
Initial 18-month term renewable by mutual agreement in successive three to six month increments

WHO WE ARE:
First Presbyterian Church of Savannah is a moderate-sized churchorganized in 1827. We are a servant church in the city, bringing focus to worship, Christian education and missions to the city and the world.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Transitional/Interim Pastor will support the congregation in identifying its mission and purpose as the body of Christ during this time of transition and into the future. He/she is responsible for providing spiritual leadership and administrative oversight of the church’s ministries, including worship, music, preaching, teaching, mission service, stewardship and fellowship. He/she will provide dynamic and meaningful biblically based preaching and teaching ministry. She/he is responsible for moderating the Session and willwork with the Session and church staff to provide opportunities for members to engage in worship, discipleship and mission. She/he will provide counsel and leadership to help the Church continue to grow spiritually and in service. He/She will help prepare the congregation for new pastoral leadership. The Transitional/Interim Pastor will promote leadership development within the congregation to enable our members to be actively involved in the direction and vision of the church. This will be accomplished by training elders, volunteers, and prospective members and by providing an atmosphere of delegation of authority and congregational communication.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preach, lead in worship and provide a teaching ministry that will lead and inspire the spiritual growth of the membership and connect them with active community outreach.
- Moderate the Session and Congregational meetings.
- Coordinate church activities and attend church events.
- Supervise, teach, train and evaluate the church staff, including the Office Administrator, Pre-school Director, Communications Coordinator, Director of Christian Education, Director of Music and Organist, Financial Secretary, and Sexton.
- Support and teach meaningful and relevant adult education programs.
- Support the work of the Session and the Session committees of Worship and Music, Christian Education, Missions, Congregational Care, Social Concerns, Hospitality, Evangelism, Finance, Endowment, Preschool Advisory Board, Property, Personnel, Communications and Pastor Nominating Committee meeting with the committees as required.
- Provide pastoral care by visiting homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and the homebound. Provide pastoral presence for those in crisis situations and counseling as needed.
- Cultivate community relationships and engage in Presbytery responsibilities.
- Conduct baptisms, weddings, the Lord’s Supper and funerals.
- Guide the church’s self-study, evaluate current church needs and goals, and discerning where God may be leading them in their life together and in their mission with Christ to their community and the world.
- Be involved in and provide support for the Confirmation Class.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of a nationally recognized seminary or divinity school.
- Ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA.
- Experience as a called pastor and/or transition/interim pastor.
- Completion of transitional ministry training.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the flexibility to relate to parishioners from a wide range of ages, with differing needs, views, and desires.

COMPENSATION

The coordinator will lead Sunday evening fellowship, as well as other events during the school year, shepherd a summer mission or youth trip, and bring the love of Christ to our young members. Must be able to develop program activities, prepare lesson plans and engage volunteers. Requires some related experience and the ability to engage and provide structure for young people. Youth Ministry Coordinator

Purpose and Description
The Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for providing Sunday evening Youth Fellowship programs during fall/winter/spring and for providing a summer youth mission trip. This role’s focus is on spiritual growth among youth grades 6-12.
Work Schedule and Reporting Relationships
This is a part-time position, generally 25 hours/week, reporting to the Sr. Pastor and working closely with the Director of Christian Education and Children’s Ministry. This position maintains an attendance schedule that is responsive to the needs, programs and activities (including evening and weekend) of the Church. The Youth Coordinator also works closely with the Youth Program Advisory Board.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Plan, coordinate, and staff Tuesday morning and Sunday evening youth fellowship programming. This includes developing programs, maintaining a schedule of programs for fellowship each week, preparing lesson plans and materials to foster the spiritual growth of youth in grades 6 to 12. Organize physical space to accommodate a fellowship atmosphere and assemble all necessary resources and supplies. Plan for dinner to be shared.
- Enhance the engagement and participation in worship by organizing the physical space to accommodate a fellowship atmosphere and assembling various supplies and resources to aide learning.
- Recruit and equip a team of volunteer youth advisors sufficient to meet the needs of the class size. Provide training and guidance such that volunteers are prepared for each group session. Lead an advisor’s meeting prior to each Sunday evening fellowship session. Provide weekly email to volunteers informing them of upcoming activities.
- Receive feedback from volunteers and Youth Ministry Advisory Committee as to effectiveness of programming and ideas for enhancement.
- Work to strengthen relationships with youth of the Church by visiting them in their homes, meeting for coffee or meals, attending sporting activities and extracurricular activities.
- Assist youth in planning and leading annual Youth Sunday worship with support from the Director of Children’s Ministry and Christian Education, Director of Music, and pastors. These groups include mid-high school and senior high school.
- Serve as primary staff leader for annual summer youth mission trip. With assistance from the Director of Children’s Ministry and Christian Education, pastors and other staff, select location, focus, and dates of trips. Identify participants, recruit adult chaperones, and make general travel and lodging plans. Provide pertinent information to parents of participants.
- Send weekly electronic communication to youth and families to share upcoming event details, plans and ongoing programs related to the Youth Ministry.
- Promote the Youth Ministry in an effort to increase participation. Work closely with the Director of Communications to develop promotional materials, publicity, and to encourage participation.
- Attend weekly staff meetings to share and receive information on the life of the church.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the Sr. Pastor and Ministry teams, as needed.
- Maintain administrative records showing activities, level of interest, promotional activities, attendees, program results. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as appropriate.

Qualifications
A combination of education, training and experience that would prepare one for success in the described position. Preferred education would include Children’s Education or Seminary, and previous work experience in a church environment with young people. Demonstrated skill in clear communications, maturity and the ability to instill confidence by program participants and their families.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Physical requirements include but may not be limited to: maintaining standing and sitting positions for extended periods; ability to walk, climb steps, bend, kneel, stoop in order to teach and to get and maintain the attention of children. Tactile acuity sufficient to handle program materials and technology used in program delivery. Ability to see, speak and hear.
Mental requirements include but may not be limited to: general math functions, intermediate reading, advanced reasoning, advanced speaking ability, and advanced writing ability. Ability to recognize relationships between bits of data, to compile thoughts and ideas into a connected plan or strategy. Ability to sense the mood of children and to respond appropriately.

Skidaway Community Church
Skidaway Community Church on beautiful Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia seeks a full-time Music Director to serve our congregation beginning October 1, 2024.
The ideal candidate will:
- Oversee both contemporary and traditional musical offerings while facilitating a transition toward more contemporary music in worship
- Play the piano in support of all worship services
- Rehearse, expand, and conduct the adult choir and adult bell choir
- In coordination with the pastor and a Worship Committee representative, select music for all worship services, so that the anthems, introits, hymns and responses will be congruent with the sermon topic
- Engage in programming throughout the life of the church, to include leading music, teaching, and lecturing on musical topics
- Teach and lead music with Skidaway Community Preschool children and teachers
- Provide (or recruit) special music and guest instrumentalists and soloists
- Insure adherence to music use copyright requirements
- Provide music for weddings, funerals, and memorial services, as needed
- Prepare an annual music program budget and operate within the approved amount
- Coordinate payment for all musicians
- Arrange for yearly maintenance of instruments and act as music librarian
- In consultation with the pastor, consider possibility of offering a second worship service
- In addition to the above responsibilities, the Music Director will be responsible for any other music duties as assigned by the Head of Staff as they relate to what is needed for the church.
The Music Director shall have the right to use the church facilities, including pianos, for private teaching in so far as this does not conflict with the church’s use or program needs. Moreover, it is mutually understood that all private teaching will be conducted apart from the duties and hours for which the Music Director is compensated by SCC.
The Music Director reports to the Pastor/Head of Staff with oversight by the Worship Committee and the Session (governing body) of the congregation.
